It’s almost the Christmas holidays, so it’s time to get little hands busy in the kitchen! Here are some of our favourite children’s recipes to make delicious, festive treats your whole family will love.

Mini Christmas pizzas

You will need:

  • Ready-made pizza bases
  • Christmas shaped pastry cutters (Christmas trees, stars, etc.)
  • Tomato puree (or BBQ sauce if you prefer BBQ bases)
  • Plenty of toppings of your choice…our favourite is ham and mushroom…yum!

How to prepare:

  1. Use your Christmas shaped pastry cutters to cut out the shapes from the ready-made pizza bases
  2. Spread tomato puree / BBQ sauce over the base
  3. Add a thin layer of cheese (optional but very tasty)
  4. Add toppings of your choice and to make it even more delicious, finish with a final layer of cheese
  5. Bake at 180 °C/Gas 4 for 5 to 10 minutes or until your mini pizzas are heated through
  6. Allow to cool and your delicious Christmas pizzas will be ready to eat!

Gingerbread Christmas trees

gingerbread

You will need:

  • 350g plain flour
  • 1-2 teaspoons of ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate soda
  • 100g butter
  • 175g soft light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons of golden syrup
  • Christmas tree pastry cutter (or any shape of your choice!)
  • Icing to decorate

How to prepare:

  1. Preheat the oven to 190’C/Gas 5 and grease 2 baking trays
  2. Put the flour, ginger and bicarbonate soda into a bowl and rub in the butter
  3. Add sugar, and stir in the syrup and 1 egg to make a firm dough
  4. Roll out the dough and cut out your Christmas trees
  5. Place your Christmas trees on the greased baking trays (spaced out to avoid them sticking together) and put in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown
  6. Leave the biscuits to firm up before taking them off the tray to cool
  7. Once cooled, decorate your trees with icing & then eat! Yum!

Mince pies

mince pies

You will need:

  • 1 packet of ready-made short crust pastry
  • 250g mincemeat
  • 1 egg for glazing
  • 1 tablespoon of icing sugar
  • 1 circle cookie cutter and 1 star shaped cookie cutter

How to prepare:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/gas 6 and grease 2 muffin trays
  2. Roll out the pastry fairly thinly and use a cookie cutter to stamp out circles for the base of your pies. Place these in your greased muffin trays
  3. Add 1 heaped tsp of mincemeat to each pie
  4. Brush the rims with egg
  5. Use the rest of the pastry to create star shaped ‘lids’ for the top of your mince pies
  6. Glaze with egg and place in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown
  7. Once cool, sprinkle with icing sugar and enjoy!
