Hitting the High Street in Hull

Whilst our quaint city of Hull might not be able to boast high street after high street, store after store of the latest women’s fashion, it’s certainly where I spend the vast majority of my Saturday afternoons. So settle down, make a strong cup of Yorkshire Tea and let me tell you why the streets of Hull are one of my favourites when it comes to hitting the high street.

1. Everything is next door to everything else

Whilst it’s entirely possible to shop online from the comfort of your own home – read: your favourite pair of fluffy slippers – Hull’s staple stores are situated a mere mile away from one another. Which makes for the perfect lazy afternoon: making your way from the student-friendly fashion of Princes Quay and meandering through the Arcades to arrive – almost – spent up at St Stephen’s.

Or, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, just hop in your car to Kingswood Retail Park or the nearby boutiques of Beverley – only a short drive away.

2. Fast-track the fitting rooms

Our fitting room queues are an absolute breeze compared to the clamour, chaos and occasional crying – “What do you mean they’re the last pair in my size?! – of our neighbouring cities. (Though it may be hard to believe mid-Saturday afternoon whilst you’re sandwiched shoulder-to-shoulder between the rails, impatiently eyeing your watch.)

3. Catch the trends late

Although, if you like to stay on top of the latest trends, Hull doesn’t always feel the most fashion forward; with stock often seeming to linger between the popping up on the new-in page and popping into your basket in store.

So, whilst you may not be able to get your hands on the latest lines on launch day, there is some satisfaction in knowing that the sold-out skirt you’ve been eyeing online may be making its way to a store near you.

4. The #HullBloggers

Did you know we have our very own #HullBloggers here to help you out in the fashion department? Didn’t think so – they’re local fashion’s best kept secret and can often be found be on the catwalks of Hull Fashion Week, getting a preview of Lush’s latest line or swinging by to take a peek at Al Porto’s latest menu.

Not only do they know every back-street boutique in Hull, a lot of what they feature online can be bought right here in our city centre! Shopping trip, anyone?
