Marist College opened on Cottingham Road, Hull in 1925. A voluntary aided Roman Catholic school, it later merged with St Mary’s High School to become St Mary’s College in 1988.

Now officially a sports college, St Mary’s can take pride in a rich sporting pedigree and with this video comes an example of the early sports activities of one of its predecessor schools. The footage shows javelin-throwing, running, long-jump and discus events, as well as the trophy presentations that followed.

I was at Marist from 1952 to 1960. I think this is earlier than 1964 as I recognise many of the lads in it. The one in the blue tee shirt is Chris Collingwood, I think. Frs Agnew, Howarth and Salmon are all there in the film. One older lad goes up twice, he was the year below me, think his name was Jackson.
