Few things says winters’ coming more than settling down on the sofa to good film.
As the nights draw in we’ve asked local film expert and founder of Hull Independent Cinema Project Paul Terry to recommend 9 great DVDs for all the family.

Paul tells us that some really good DVDs have come out this summer and there are some great new releases still to come. Check out the trailers below:

1. Maleficent – Out 20th October CERT: PG

The untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman with stunning black wings, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army of humans threatens the harmony of the land.

2. How to Train Your Dragon 2 – Out 17th October  CERT:U

In this second instalment Hiccup and Toothless find an ice cave full of wild dragons and the illusive Dragon Rider. As they explore this new world the two friends must join the ultimate battle to protect the peace.

3. Mr Peabody & Sherman – Out now  CERT: U

Mr. Peabody, the best dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman, use their time machine—the Wabac—to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes the Wabac out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidently rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time-traveling trio will make their mark on history.

4. The Wind Rises – Out now CERT: PG

The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO mini figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world

6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Out now  CERT: PG

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.

7. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition – Out 3 November CERT: 12

What can you say about the next instalment of this epic fantasy adventure directed by Peter Jackson apart from it’s brilliant.

8. Ghostbusters 1 & 2 (celebrating 30th anniversary & 25th anniversarys) – Out now  CERT : 12 & PG

Join the fun with the four Ghostbusters (and Slimer) as they fight to rid the world of the ghouls and ghosts and the dreaded Marshmallow Man. Re live your childhood, or show the kids how real movies are made with this 30th Anniversary edition featuring both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II

9. X- Men Days of Future Past – Out 10th November  CERT: 12

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
