Halloween recipe: Zombie fingers

Halloween is a great time to get baking with the kids. We all love food that appeals to the eye during the rest of the year, but for a week or so in October we enjoy eating really gross things, such as frozen banana ghosts, slime bug cups, sausage mummy dippers and yes, even maggoty apples (using puffed rice of course). All of these recipes come from BBC Good Food and the one below really grabbed our attention, because what could ever be as disgusting and delicious in equal measure as zombie fingers?

Ingredients

250g stoned dates

100g dark chocolate, chopped

3 tbsp smooth peanut butter

3 tbsp porridge oats

flaked toasted almonds

 

Method

  1. Tip all of the ingredients except the almonds into a food processor and pulse until you have a rubbly looking mixture.
  2. Line a tray with baking parchment and mould the mixture into fingers, then lay them on the tray.
  3. Press an almond ‘fingernail’ into the end of each finger.
  4. Place in the fridge to harden for at least 1 hour.
  5. Serve poking out of a bowl.
