With the recent controversy in London over mothers who publicly breastfeed their babies, what’s the view here up north? Are we more open about it, or do you also find it embarrassing?

Ukip leader Nigel Farage has said mothers who breastfeed could “perhaps sit in a corner” to avoid embarrassing people who are put off by the practice.

Mr Farage was responding to reports that luxury Mayfair hotel Claridge’s asked a mother to cover her baby’s head with  a napkin whilst breastfeeding in the hotel’s restaurant.

The remarks, which he has since tried to clarify have provoked an out-cry from politicians and women’s groups alike:

One mother has organised a breast-feeding protest at Claridge’s which will see a large group of mothers descend on the Mayfair hotel to breastfeed their babies in support of what they see as a perfectly natural act.

The 2010 Equality act forbids places like hotels and restaurants from discriminating against women who breastfeed, but how do you feel about it?

In a city renowned for it’s friendliness is Hull more breastfeeding friendly than London? Let us know your views.
