Kerrin Tatman wants to create a celebration of classical music in and around Hull.

A music composer from Beverley is calling for more people to celebrate the creative arts in the region.

Kerrin Tatman has created a series of music based on famous figures from Hull and hopes his work will be used during Hull’s City of Culture year in 2017.

The musician feels that composing music should be part of the celebration and is hosting his own concert in Beverley.

Speaking to KCFM, Kerrin says he wants Hull to embrace modern classical music:

“I just want to bring something a little bit different to the Hull City of Culture by performing the song cycle of twelve famous Hull figures. It’s celebrating Hull and the people it’s produced, but it’s also bringing modern classical music to the public.”

He believes that more opportunities need to be made available in the region for up and coming composers:

“There really isn’t any sort of platform for composers. So I’m really interested in creating a network of local and national composers and creating a platform to have them perform their work because there isn’t really any platform.”

Kerrin says the arts have a strong influence and is working towards a collaboration with the Hull City of Culture team:

“I think it would be a good way of bringing people in as the Hull City of Culture will be such a massive deal. It won’t just be a local thing, it will be seen throughout the country, and I think it’s such a great opportunity to help create this platform and that’s why I really want Hull’s City of Culture team interested in it.”
