KC is supporting a Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays project that will help pupils at four local primary schools get active.

240 children at Newington Academy, Paisley Primary, Thoresby Primary and Wheeler Street Primary will take part in the six-week FUNdamentals course, where they will receive coaching by Stingrays players, learn stick-handling, passing and shooting skills and take part in team games.

The pupils will also discover more about ice hockey and about the countries Stingrays players originate from.

At the end of the programme, the children will visit Hull Arena to watch the players in action during a training session before getting on the ice themselves to skate with the team.

Each child will also receive a completion certificate and a ticket to a Stingrays home game.

KC’s community co-ordinator, Brendon Smurthwaite, said: “The FUNdamentals programme is a terrific initiative which encourages children to be active whilst offering them an educational element at the same time.

“Having the Stingrays players involved in the delivery of the programme is great as it means the children get to meet, and learn from, some real-life role models.

“That can only have a positive effect and we are delighted to be supporting the programme.”
