Employees from KC got on their bikes recently and pedalled their way around the company’s 15 telephone exchanges in one day to raise more than £1,000 for medical research charity Sparks.

Nine intrepid cyclists, joined by two of their colleagues in a support van, braved less than ideal weather conditions to complete the 87 mile route which took them to every corner of Hull as well as Driffield, Beverley, Hedon, Cottingham and Bilton.

The challenge was part of an even bigger feat taking place this week, which will see 13 KCOM Group employees cycle 300 miles across Italy from Venice to Genoa, also in aid of Sparks.

KC’s managing director Gary Young took part in the local cycling event and will also take on the Italian fundraiser. He said:

“I have previously visited some of our exchanges, so this was a great excuse to see all of our exchanges across the KC network.

“The route isn’t as hilly as the route we are taking on in Italy, but we did it on the windiest day of the year, so it presented a real challenge.

“We raised money for a fantastic cause, so the aches and pains were worthwhile.”

Sparks is the charity partner of KC’s parent company KCOM Group. Every day one in 30 babies are born in the UK with a condition which may affect them for life and each year less than £10 per child is spent on health research. Sparks funds pioneering children’s medical research to get this to change.
