If you live in Hull, work in Hull, went to university in Hull, or even if you’ve popped to Hull for a bag of chips, you’ll know that American Chip Spice is all the rage. To the outsider it may seem strange that a USA product is so popular in East Yorkshire, but in actual fact the company was founded here by a local family after a trip to the States. That was over twenty years ago, and today American Chip Spice is enjoyed in takeaways, chip shops, cafes, restaurants, food vans and households across the city and far, far beyond.

The company is still very much rooted in Hull, with the American Chip Spice van making regular appearances at markets, celebrations, WelcomeFest at Hull University Union and the Yum Food Festival in Hull City Centre. Have you spotted the van somewhere? Let us know in the comments below.

American Chip Spice is used on far more than chips these days, with many fans adding it to dishes such as spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, corned beef hash, shepherd’s pie and even brownies! That’s why the people behind the spice want to see how you enjoy yours by sharing pictures, videos and recipes on their Facebook page and tagging them on Twitter. You can also get involved by uploading a #chipspiceselfie to your social media channels, and the sillier the better!

So the next time your chips are covered in orange magic dust, take a moment to feel proud that it’s a homegrown product – we promise it will make your meal taste all the better.
