The work is expected to be completed after 12 months.

Driffield Library is to open at temporary accommodation on West Garth today, to allow a £1.2 million refurbishment.

Once finished, the project will see greater flexibility for residents, as they’ll be able to access a combined customer service and library facility.

It should be completed in a year’s time.

Portfolio Holder for Civic Wellbeing and Culture, Councillor Richard Burton, says:

“This is very exciting news for Driffield. I am delighted that once again our prudent financial management over many years means we are able to invest in significant improvements in the town, to provide a much better facility for both library and customer service users.

An East Riding Council Spokesperson says:

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the library in Driffield, and its relocation, but would like to reassure our customers that the end result will provide the local community with a modern and cost efficient facility, bringing a number of services together under one roof.”
