Some 100 jobs are set to be created in Hull thanks to new funding from consumer goods giant Reckitt Benckiser.

The firm is pumping £100 million into a consumer health goods centre of excellence at its site in Dansom Lane.

Reckitt, which has a 200-year history in Hull, currently has around 300 research and development staff. And it is expected that the firm’s workforce will grow by between 20% and 40% by 2018.

Pending planning approval, the 13,000sq ft centre, which was originally announced by Chancellor George Osborne, will be a hothouse for new health products and services.

Reckitt Benckiser already produces familiar high-street names Lemsip and Nurofen.

Building will start in two years’ time, with an estimated completion date of 2018. Sharon James, the firm’s global research and development vice-president, hailed the opportunities afforded by the scheme to “new, bright graduates”.
