Around 300 knives have been handed in, from members of the public, to Humberside Police as part of their Knife Amnesty campaign.

Members of the public were urged to give in dangerous knives anonymously to try and reduce the amount of knife crime.

Inspector Neil Pattison says he’s happy with the public response:

“We don’t want knives out on the streets or that people no longer need. Some of the knives will be with people who have looked inside their house and thought, ‘I don’t need these anymore’. So as far as we’re concerned, it’s been a real success.”

He believes community support helps ensure safer streets:

“Please be reassured that Humberside Police do take knife crime very seriously. It’s unacceptable that anybody should receive any injuries from a knife, but they are few and far between thankfully; So long may that continue.”
