Hull City Council’s contribution towards public works at the site of the new Siemens offshore wind turbine facility has been set at about £3 million.

About half of the money – £1.5 million – will be spent on the Alexandra Dock public infrastructure work to upgrade the existing public right of way across land owned by Associated British Ports.

Preservation work on listed buildings and structures, including on a 129-year-old disused dock crane, in the Green Port Hull project will come to £1.3 million.

A new pedestrian footbridge to link the dock with Hedon Road will cost £223,000, while £79,000 has been earmarked for new artwork, murals and public information boards.

City councillors had initially pledged £5 million towards the public works on the site four years ago when Siemens had yet to commit to the project.

The £310 million project has now been confirmed, with initial construction work under way.
