Motorists in East Riding and Hull have failed breath tests in a summer drink driving campaign.

New figures show that 12.1%, or 42, of the 347 drivers in Hull failed after being asked to take breath tests in June and July.

In East Riding, the percentage of positive tests were nearly half that seen in Hull. A total of 37 (or 6.1%) of the 602 breath tests taken in East Riding were failed.

Of the 347 tests taken in Hull, nearly half (163) were the consequence of a road accident. More than three in 10 (35.7%) of those who provided positive tests were involved in a road accident.

Of the 602 test taken in East Riding, nearly a quarter (162) were the consequence of a road accident. Nearly a third (13) of the positive tests involved drivers in a road accident.

Humberside Police’s PC Barry Gerdner says urged others not to endanger their own lives or other people’s by getting into a car having had a drink.
