The brand new Vintage Bar and Cafe brings quality drinks, retro treasures and a fantastic atmosphere to Hull’s Old Town.

Having opened just three weeks ago, the bright red bar has already attracted a lot of attention from locals and Hull UK City of Culture vultures.

“Things are going really well so far,” owner Mike Beswick tells us. “We’ve been very well received and have had a lot of compliments on the style and look of the place. Yes, it’s gone quite well, I think.”

As the name suggests, the interior of the intimate lounge is decorated in a classic fashion, with traditional pieces and photographs dotted around on the walls. In the meantime, memorable tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s can be heard throughout the day and well into the evening.

“The look of the bar is an ongoing process, we’re hoping to add some newer vintage products, such as album covers and music memorabilia as we find them. We want it to be vintage, but with a modern twist.”

Currently, Vintage Bar serves a vast array of delicious drinks and beverages.

“We specialise in traditional ales from local brewers like Atom. We also offer continental lagers and bottled beers,” Mike explains.

A selection of premium spirits can also be sampled and mixed into refreshing cocktails. In the future, they are hoping to expand their range and provide food and nibbles for their customers.

“In the next two or three months, we’re looking into creating a tapas-style menu,” he adds. “This will consist of an array of Parma hams, breads, cheeses, oils and balsamic vinegars.”

For Mike, it was a no-brainer to open up the bar on Silver Street:

“I moved to Hull around seven and a half years ago. I lived and worked in the Old Town area and fell in love with the place, the architecture and the vibe,” he gushes. “It’s where I wanted to be; I’ve always been drawn to the older part of Hull.”

The opening of the bar also coincides with the new and final season of City of Culture. Open from 11:30am until late every day, Vintage Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a pre-show cocktail or post-event tipple.

Beyond 2017, the venue will be ideal for taking a break from shopping in the city centre. Meanwhile, the huge windows are a wonderful spot to watch the world go by over a pint or two.

“We pride ourselves on great drinks, great atmosphere, great music and great staff,” Mike adds.

You can pop into Vintage Bar and Cafe on 28 Silver Street in Hull. Like their page on Facebook to find out more.
