East Riding Council has rejected controversial plans to create a new holiday home park.

The proposed site at Allerthorpe Park Golf Course – which shut its doors over two years ago – would have housed up to 225 lodges and static caravans. It would have also retained up to 11 holes of the golf course for visitors to use.

But the planning committee at the council has dismissed the plans. It said the size of the proposal would have a significant adverse impact on the character of the area and the residential amenity of nearby communities.

Local residents had already expressed their unhappiness at the proposals, even though the applicants, Turnwalk and Park Leisure 2000, claimed the project would create about 30 full and part-time jobs.

A total of 52 letters of objection were received from people living in the vicinity.

Allerthorpe Parish Council also objected to the plans. It cited the scale of the development, drainage implications and impact on local services, with the potential of more than 500 additional residents in peak season, as its reasons.
