A dispute that has resulted in industrial action being taken by ambulance workers in Hull and East Yorkshire is finally over after more than two years.

Members of the Unite union at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) have been taking the action –including strikes – in Yorkshire and Humberside over staffing arrangements and union recognition.

But Unite and YAS have now issued a joint statement saying the long-running dispute has been brought to an end.

In the statement they say they are committed to immediately returning to a normal working relationship and resolving any outstanding issues.

The statement says the two parties are looking forward to forming a new constructive relationship founded on mutual respect and a commitment to the public.

And it adds that they share a priority to make sure that patients in the region are given a first-class ambulance service.

The statement adds that an agreement has been made which will see Unite again being formally recognised.
