An appeal’s been launched in Goole to improve elderly people’s Christmases.

Members of the town’s Memory Cafe are creating and decorating shoeboxes this afternoon, which will be filled with gifts.

It’s to make sure elderly residents aren’t alone this festive time and to bring a little joy to their holiday.

Goole Museum Curator Debbie Hardy’s calling for volunteers to help with the campaign: “This is just for people to get involved in something worthwhile and to spread a little bit of Christmas cheer really. Let’s face it, everybody needs a little bit of cheering up at Christmas, especially the elderly.

“For someone who doesn’t normally get a gift or many presents, and for many people Christmas does highlight how alone these people can be, it’s just really lovely to receive a gift.”
