Police are appealing for help to identify the rider of a mobility scooter following an alleged assault in Beverley.

It is said that the rider drove their scooter into a 79-year-old woman on Saturday as large crowds gathered to watch the Tour de Yorkshire.

The incident happened at the junction of Champney Road and Lairgate in Beverley at 12.30pm.

Detective Constable Andrew Chapman, of Beverley Police Station, says members of the public tried to stop the scooter rider without success. He is urging the rider to come forward and contact the police as soon as possible.

The woman suffered minor injuries to her hands and feet as she was knocked to the floor in the incident.

DC Chapman is also asking for anyone who can help identify the rider to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting Crime Reference 2111338.
