Workers from Arco Ltd are celebrating after winning the race to be crowned East Yorkshire’s fastest firm.

The company – experts in workplace safety – triumphed in the KCOM Hull 10K Corporate Challenge.

A popular feature of the Asda Foundation Hull 10K, the event attracted hundreds of runners from companies across the region, with the times of the first three team members home used to calculate the winners.

Arco’s team came home in a total time of 2:04:06 – average 41:21 – to lift the trophy. Last year’s winners, AB Graphic International, clocked an average time of 42:47 to finish second and Hull City Tigers Trust was third with an average time of 43:04.

Arco’s Ian Fenton was the fastest male runner in the challenge, crossing the finish line in 37:07, and Hannah Davis, representing Townends Accountants, was the fastest female in 40:19.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM community coordinator, said: “It was fantastic to see so many companies get involved in the Corporate Challenge. The friendly competition it generates adds extra spice to the 10K and, more importantly, the runners raise a lot of money for local and national charities. KCOM was delighted to support such a great event.”

Charlie Tatman, event manager for the Hull 10K organisers Run For All, said: “The corporate challenge makes a marvellous contribution to the Hull 10K and we are extremely grateful to KCOM for their support.”

The Hull 10k forms of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m by completing a series of gruelling endurance events despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

It is also part of the successful Asda Foundation 10K series which includes runs in Lincoln, Nottingham, Burnley, Leeds, York, Bury and Sheffield.
