Beverley Real Ale Festival sponsor AJ Pies and Pastries have taken the title in the Best Ready to Eat category at the Deliciously Yorkshire taste awards 2015.

The company, who sponsored the increasingly popular Beverley event, picked up the award last night for their renowned pork pie with blue cheese, which featured at the recent Beverley Real Ale event as part of the town’s annual food festival.

The award comes amid intense competition from other pie makers in the region. However, judges where left in no doubt that the AJ Pies creation really delivered on flavour, commenting that The Andrew Jones Pork Pie with Yorkshire Blue was “perfectly formed with a great balance of flavours and a real hit of delicious blue cheese”.

AJ Pies and Pastries bakery manager Alan Wadsworth said: “To win a Yorkshire award means a great deal to us. We’ve been making delicious tasting pies for the people of Yorkshire for many years and most of our ingredients are locally sourced here, including the creamy Shepherds Purse Yorkshire Blue we’ve used for the winning pie.”

“People in East Yorkshire appreciate a proper tasting pie, prepared and baked using traditional methods. Places like Beverley are fast becoming a serious food destination.”

The Deliciously Yorkshire Awards exist to promote Yorkshire food and drink by highlighting the traditions, innovation and quality of what’s on offer. Now in its 15th year, this year’s awards were the biggest event yet in the organisation’s history with a record number of entries.

AJ Pies and Pastries employs 29 local people and can proudly add this accolade to its awards cabinet, having recently won a silver medal at the British Pie Awards.
