Graham Stuart believes the current system for school funding doesn’t reflect any educational reality whatsoever.

He’s now challenged both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor over why East Riding pupils in are getting around two thousand pounds less than students elsewhere in the country.

The MP for Beverley and Holderness explains the differences between pupils: “Top ten areas receive £6,300 per pupil and the worst ten funded areas receive around £4,200 per pupil. So it’s more than £2,000 per head. Think of that as a class of thirty, that is more than £60,000 in one place than another”

The MP is concerned the current system isn’t sustainable: “It’s the fact it’s going to become worse over the next few years if we don’t move to a fairer distribution, so it’s not just about the present, it’s also about the future. Having a fair equally distributed school funding system will create a more sustainable system.”
