A school in Beverley is to be refurbished, or knocked down and replaced, as part of a dramatic makeover.

Longcroft Lower School, which was built 65 years ago, is one of three schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire that will benefit from the second phase of the Government’s £2 billion Priority School Building Programme.

Officials from the Education Funding Agency are expected to visit the school over the coming weeks to assess the detailed work needed and timescales for delivery, which will be between 2015 and 2021.

Headteacher Ian O’Donnell is excited by the prospect of the improvements.

He extended his thanks to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for their work in managing and securing the bid.

More than 1,300 schools across England applied for the funding but just 277 will receive a slice of the £2 billion pot.

Hilderthorpe Primary School and Withernsea Primary School are the two other schools in East Yorkshire that made successful bids.
