Beverley commuters will be able to travel by rail all the way to London without changing trains this year.

First Hull Trains is operating the new route in an attempt to lower commuters’ travelling times after successfully trialling the route yesterday.

The new 6.02am weekday service from Beverley will arrive at 9.16am at King’s Cross, London, after calling at five stations on the way.

The 6.50pm return journey will get back at 9.46pm following stops at Grantham, Retford, Doncaster, Howden, Brough and Hull.

Work on the project has been ongoing since last May. Network Rail needed to be convinced that the new direct route had a good business argument behind it before it sanctioned support.

The regulator has yet to give its final approval to the scheme. But route officials are optimistic that this will come soon.

London-bound passengers getting on at Beverley’s Station Square terminus currently have to head to Hull to get their connection.
