Its that time of year again at The Deep when staff need a keen eye, and a lot of patience, to count up thousands of fish, bugs and insects.

Every single member of staff is taking part its annual census over two days.

The Deep houses around 200 different species, with 3,500 fish and 3,000 other creatures.

As you would expect most of the species at The Deep are fish and always on the move. Curator, Katy Duke, says her staff have to be very patient when counting how many there are in the tanks.

Among its most noteworthy residents are two green Sawfish, a range of rays and sharks and a Gentoo penguin colony. The Deep informs visitors about the world’s oceans with examples of marine life and interactive and audio-visual experiences and activities.

The Deep, on Tower Street, is open every day from 10am to 6pm.
