If travelling near the Humber Bridge today, you may see a 10ft beagle walking across it.

A woman from Sproatley has organised a Big Dog Walk over the Humber Bridge today.

Deborah Minns says the inspiration behind the 10 foot beagle was the messages and attitude of teenager Steven Sutton, who died of cancer last year.

She explains how the Big Dog Walk, which will travel across the country, aims to raise money for Cancer Research Wales.

“Cancer has had a huge impact on our families and friends so we particularly wanted to help a cancer research charity that funds groundbreaking science which harnesses 21st Century technology. Cancer Research Wales recognises that each patient, and their cancer, is unique. The human-relevant research is revolutionary in the study of personalised cancer medicine and patients everywhere will benefit.

“Stephen Sutton was an inspiration to everyone. His wish to ‘hug an animal bigger than himself’ gave us the Big Dog theme for the walk. Our big beautiful dog will be transported to each location where we’ll be his dog walkers at each landmark, inviting people to also hug an animal bigger than them.”

Deborah says the response from the public has been overwhelming, and they hope their big dog will help to raise the awareness that’s desperately needed.
