The demolition of 11 buildings in Bridlington, part of a plan to improve the town’s economy and roads, is to get under way today.

It is being carried out to allow a new bridge to be built close to Beck Hill and East Riding of Yorkshire Council says three buildings should be demolished by Christmas.

Additional buildings in Hilderthorpe Road will be destroyed next year so the road can then be widened.

A new public space and transport interchange near the railway station will eventually be created as part of the project.

Council leader Stephen Parnaby said that he was confident that the plans would bring many benefits to the town in the future.

On Wednesday December 3, an exhibition outlining Bridlington’s transport plan will be held at The Spa theatre.
