Bridlington has been announced as a key location for the first-ever Tour de Yorkshire – with details of its precise role being unveiled next month.

The other start and finish locations of the three-day cycle race were announced as Leeds, Scarborough, Selby, Wakefield and York, with more details being released on January 21.

Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation have organised the event for between May 1 and 3 in an effort to build on the success of the Tour de France.

Organisers are hopeful that the televised contest will be able to attract some of the world’s best cyclists.

Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson admitted that people in the city will be disappointed it is not named as a starting or finishing location.

She did say, however, that people in Hull can look forward to being City of Culture in 2017 and that everyone should be focused on making that a success.
