In the latest installment of the annual pre-season clash, which is anything but a friendly, both clubs will do battle again at the KC Stadium on Sunday 24th January, kick off 2pm, with KC Sport once again involved in the build-up.

The match is not only a warm up for the Super League season but a special occasion to celebrate the memory and career of one of rugby league’s greatest ever players, Clive Sullivan MBE.

The former Great Britain and Wales international scored 250 tries in 352 appearances for Hull FC, more than any other player, before crossing the river to join rivals Hull KR where he added a further 118 tries in 213 matches.

Also a member of the armed forces, Sullivan’s legacy was such that the main road into the city, the A63 dual carriageway, is named the Clive Sullivan Way.

Hull FC head coach, Lee Radford, said: “It’s a fitting tribute to Clive and an honour for both clubs and players to go head-to-head for the Clive Sullivan Trophy.

“It might only be pre-season, but it is an important time of the year. Derby games are always competitive occasions and both clubs would love to get their hands on the trophy for another year.

“We’ve both lifted the trophy in the last two years and we’ll be looking to do that again later this month.”

He added, “The match will be a good contest and a chance for us to field our strongest sides, with new signings on show, so it will be good to see where we are at before the season starts and for the fans to see the team in action at home for the first time.

“It will be great to see as many fans as possible down there to help start the season with a bang and pay tribute to a legend of this city.”

Meanwhile, opposition head coach Chris Chester, a veteran of Hull derbies having played for both clubs, also added: “We’ll be taking the full squad to the derby against Hull FC and whilst we we’ll be taking it seriously with the bragging rights and the Clive Sullivan Trophy on the line, we’ll be giving the younger members of the squad more game time.

“We want all the players to get a feel for the passion, intensity and cauldron like atmosphere of a derby without the added pressure of it being a league or cup fixture.

“When they do play and points or the next round of the cup is a stake, they will then already have had that experience.”

Last season, Hull KR lifted the trophy after a narrow 28-22 victory, whilst Hull FC claimed the spoils in 2014 with a 20-12 victory.

Fans who want to attend the match can buy tickets from both club retail stores or online at ticketing: Hullfc.com. Fans can also call the KC Stadium ticket box office on 01482 505 600.

Both clubs are advising supporters to buy in advance as only a strictly limited number of tickets will be available to buy on match day.
