Nearly 4,000 East Yorkshire residents in supported housing could be affected by cuts to housing benefits.

Labour held an opposition day debate on Wednesday (January 27) calling on the Government to exempt supported housing from planned cuts.

In Hull nearly 3,000 people are in supported housing and housing for older people, while a further 850 reside in these types of properties in East Yorkshire.

John Healy MP, Labour’s shadow cabinet minister for housing, said: “This could be a catastrophe for those who can least afford it. There is no way these people or the organisations who support them can make up the yawning shortfall these cuts are set to open up.”
