Councillors want to see a temporary park-and-ride system created in Beverley to solve parking problems in the town centre.

Three East Riding ward councillors want to see council-owned Grovehill industrial estate land used until plans for a permanent one are complete.

East Riding Council is looking into the potential of the site, while it could take two years for a permanent park-and-ride system to be introduced.

Councillor Kerri Harold said: “Right the way across the board, it is a win-win because it not only alleviates the stagnant traffic parked on the streets, it actually stops the moving traffic coming in and out whilst they’re searching for parking spaces.”

She added: “The biggest issue facing Beverley at the moment is the parking, is the infrastructure and we really really need to get a grip on it now.

“I don’t think it’s good enough for the residents of Beverley to have to suffer this for another two years, when actually, there might be a solution that for a relatively small amount of money, (a park and ride) can resolve the issue.”

The way things are going they won’t need to worry about it, folks will give up coming to Beverley and trying to park and go elsewhere, many of the parking machines won’t take money anyway only cards.
