Hull is set to get festive this Thursday evening when the city’s Christmas lights are officially turned on.

The switch is set to be thrown at 7.10pm by the Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Anita Harrison.

This year’s event is taking place in the Rose Bowl area of Queens Gardens in the city centre with a programme of live entertainment starting at 6.30pm.

The switch-on is to be accompanied by a three-minute firework display and marks the launch of late night shopping in Hull city centre.

This year will see four eight-metre tall Sitka spruce trees lit up around the Rose Bowl fountain. They are replacing the Christmas tree which has traditionally been put up in Queen Victoria Square to enable city centre improvements to continue.

Tonight’s event is being hosted by commentator Neil Rudd with the line-up of performers set to include Charli Beard, Calum Scott, Tre Amici and The Two Pianos.
