Humberside Police is reporting four times the usual number of thefts from vehicles in and around Kingswood as Christmas approaches.

The force is putting on extra patrols in the area, where one of Hull’s biggest retail parks is based.

But in most cases the crimes could have been easily avoided by people simply remembering to lock their cars.

Other ways to avoid theft include keeping valuables out of sight, locking them away or removing them from parked vehicles.

Leader of the Northern neighbourhood policing team, Inspector Steve Lamb, accepts that the sudden rise in crimes is a major problem in the area.

With up to 20 thefts from vehicles per month, rather than the usual four or five, he believes that it is a big cause for concern.

The police are working closely with security at the retail park as well as coordinating the extra patrols in order to catch those responsible.
