Beverley is getting a taste of silver-screen glamour as filming for the new Dad’s Army movie gets under way in the town.

Stars including Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bill Nighy are shooting scenes there, having already toured a number of neighbouring locations including Bridlington and Flamborough.

They will be filming at the East Riding Theatre, which is set to be the backdrop for a number of scenes in the big-screen remake of the popular television comedy.

The theatre, a former chapel, caught the eye of the film’s location scouts, who were looking for places which would transport audiences back to the Second World War, when the film is set.

Lesley Downie, operations director at the theatre, said she was thrilled that the theatre was being used in the film. She said it put the unique and timeless venue in the spotlight.

Also starring in the film is Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Sarah Lancashire and Alison Steadman.
