The cream of Hull’s promising dance talent will be battling it out for a prestigious award later this week.

Hull Truck Theatre is staging this year’s Hull Dance Prize this Thursday (October 22) – with the audience choosing the eventual victor in one section.

Judges will consider the respective merits of the shortlisted Lo:cus Dance Theatre, Sarah Roe’s Intussusception duet, Dan Craddock and JoinedUp Dance.

These new and/or emerging acts are competing for £2,500-worth of prizes to support their development.

The two categories up for grabs are the Audience Prize and Judge’s prize. Hull 2017 UK City of Culture team’s David Watson and dance professionals Pete Shenton and Rita Marcalo comprise the selection panel.

The quartet of acts will perform before the theatre audience while the three judges make their minds up.

Terry Geraghty, a city councillor whose specialisms include culture, calls the evening “exciting”.

Ruth Drake, the council’s arts development officer, describes the competition as “unique”.
