London-bound Beverley commuters will be able to travel directly to the capital from tomorrow without having to change at Hull.

The journey should take only around three hours. The new 6.02am weekday service from Beverley will arrive at King’s Cross at 9.16am. The return journey will leave 6.50pm and arrive back at 9.46pm.

The route comprises six other stops. The return trip takes in Grantham, Retford, Doncaster, Howden, Brough and Hull.

Office of Rail Regulation officials gave final approval to First Hull Trains to use the link, which has been worked on since last May.

The operator won the necessary backing after proving there to be a business argument for starting the direct route.

Industry experts believe that First Hull could use this first move into East Yorkshire’s northern region to be the platform for more expansion.

The operator already runs 90 trains every week from Hull’s Paragon Interchange to London.
