Plans to build a new pavilion in Pelican Park have been brought a little closer to fruition after an east Hull charity donated £20,000 to the cause.

The James Reckitt Charity gave the money to the Friends of Pelican Park, which is in charge of fundraising for the project.

Friends of Pelican Park was surprised and delighted at the offering, which will be added to the £270,000 already raised toward the £330,000 construction cost.

The existing money has come primarily from community budgets and grants, but the Friends of Pelican Park is relying on charitable donations for the rest.

The donation gave a big boost to Jan Hornby, of Friends of Pelican Park, who wasn’t expecting such a large amount.

She said she thought it was a sign that the charity believed in the project and that the ambitious target was now in sight after many months of fundraising.
