This Saturday, hundreds of joggers, runners, walkers and even some dancers will be making their way around Driffield covered in paint.

Dove House Hospice’s Colour Run is the most vibrant way to fundraise for a much-needed cause. We spoke with their Fundraising Coordinator, Anita Brien, to find out more about this inspiring day.

“Our Colour Run is a 3K route around Driffield Showground. Participants will run through colour stations as they are covered head to toe in powder paint,” she enthuses. “You will start off in a pristine white T-shirt and finish the race looking like you’ve just run through a rainbow!”

The run kicks off at 12pm, but before this there will be food, games and a bar. These extra activities and entertainment, provided by KCFM, continue from 11am until 3pm.

Dove House is a charity that provides quality care for those in the local community with life-limiting illness. Their team of experts specialise in palliative care, which means total support for patients who have illnesses that are no longer curable. For example, those with terminal cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, neurological illnesses and respiratory diseases. Their incredible work is essential for giving these people the best quality of life possible.

The hospice itself is set in stunning gardens and has been transformed into a home from home, a place where patients and their loved ones can feel relaxed and happy.
Meanwhile, they also offer social, psychological and spiritual support to family and significant others throughout the individual’s illness. Amazingly, Dove House delivers all of this free of charge.

Fundraising events, such as the Colour Run, are essential to Dove House Hospice, as the charity is maintained solely by money raised in the local community, as well as local Primary Care Trusts.

“People can still sign up to our Colour Run,” Anita points out, “or just come along on the day and register between 10am and 11:30am.”

This year, there are two options to choose from when signing up. Standard Entry will give you usual entry to the Colour Run and event party, whilst VIP Entry allows you entry to the event party too, plus a T-shirt, sunglasses and the opportunity to set off in the first wave.

“All money raised at the event will directly support care given to our patients. Not only will taking part mean that you are supporting your local hospice, but it’s also a great day out and a chance to have fun with friends and family,” Anita explains.

Along the 3K course, there will be four colour stations, where participants are showered in clouds of paint.

“KCFM will be playing music to get you around the course. It’s going to be a great afternoon. Our pre- and post-event parties are full of fun and games; there will be a face painter and bouncy castle too.”

Also, if you raise more than £50 on the day in sponsorship money, you could be in with a chance of nabbing a free day at the wonderful Alpamare Water Park in Scarborough.
