A Driffield couple are urging people to sign up to the organ donor list after they donated their baby daughter’s organs after she died.

Ami and Liam Duggleby, whose daughter Minnie passed away when she was just 23 days old, now raise funds and awareness about the issue and are leading calls for people to sign up to the organ donor register.

There are currently 26 people in Hull and the East Riding, and 800 across Yorkshire, on the organ transplant waiting list. Last year, 10 families in Yorkshire refused consent to donate a deceased relative’s organs, despite them being registered as organ donors.

Mrs Duggleby said: “It was a really difficult time. We knew that she wasn’t going to live and we just wanted something positive to come out of a bad situation. We knew from all the tests that she had that some of her other organs were okay.”

She added: “It’s hard to even put into words how we were feeling at the time, but we were quite proud of what she was going to do, despite the fact we couldn’t keep her with us.”
