East Riding Council want to support High Street shops in making Driffield a more attractive place for visitors by getting them online.

A new scheme’s being launched in Driffield to attract more visitors and improve the local economy.

Businesses are able to apply for funding to improve shop fronts, promote themselves on a new website and improve facilities for walkers.

Councillor Jane Evison says they’ve spoken to businesses about what is needed to boost the town: “It maybe could benefit from a little smartening up at the front. They need to be aware of what their visitor economy is, that could be walkers. And then of course the Digital Driffield, for people to be able to very easily see where they can go to buy whatever it is they want.

“If they can promote their businesses digitally, if they can smarten up the shop fronts that need it and make the High Street attractive and if they encourage people that are walking in the area to come and visit the town, then it certainly will be a boost to the economy.”
