Motorists in East Yorkshire and Hull are being urged to be careful and avoid the perils of black ice.

The warning comes after a weekend which saw Humberside Police dealing with dozens of accidents on the area’s roads.

Over 40 incidents were logged on December 13 alone as the region was hit by freezing temperatures, leaving many roads covered in black ice.

And with the temperature set to dip again, drivers are being warned to stay on their guard.

A Humberside Police spokesperson says motorists should consider whether their journey has to be made before setting off.

Among the incidents the emergency services attended in East Yorkshire were an accident involving two vehicles at North Frodingham and a two-vehicle collision on Station Road at Burton Agnes near Driffield.

Meanwhile, a driver escaped uninjured after their car came off the A1079 at Shiptonthorpe near Market Weighton and ended up in a ditch.
