Officials at an East Riding school excluded a five-year-old pupil for a week after he smuggled in a kitchen knife.

The boy served the week-long ban after the implement was found by a teacher in the cloakroom of Patrington CofE Primary Academy.

Reports claim that the boy had apparently told other pupils that he had brought in the knife for “stabbing bad teachers with” on Monday October 13.

The school, which is run by the Diocese of York, has been criticised by some parents amid claims that they were not informed of the exclusion.

Some parents said that they only found out about the incident through gossip at the school gates.

School spokeswoman Eleanor Course revealed that a teacher had overheard a child saying he had a knife at the school door.

This prompted a cloakroom search which uncovered the knife and, as a result, the child in question was excluded from school for seven days.
