Victims of crime in East Yorkshire can now track the progress of investigations into their case online.

Humberside Police is the fourth force in the country to adopt TrackMyCrime, a secure website which provides a tracking service for victims.

The system allows people to receive updates and exchange messages with the officer in the case without the need to speak to them directly.

It works on mobile devices and computers, so victims can communicate with the police when and wherever best suits them. They are notified of an update to their investigation via text message.

“TrackMyCrime provides victims with more choices on their preferred method of contact during the crime investigation,” says Assistant Chief Constable Gary Calvert. ” It changes the way we communicate, providing flexibility and allows people to receive updates on the progress of their case whilst continuing to run their busy everyday lives.”

Almost 500 victims across the region have logged in to use the system s ince it went live towards the end of December.

“It will improve the service we give to victims and reduce the administrative burden on investigative officers,” adds ACC Calvert.
