Adult learning provisions in East Riding have improved in recent months, according to a new report from Ofsted.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Employment, Education and Skills Service was rated ‘good’ in a recent inspection.

Council leaders and management have taken rapid, successful action to improve the adult learning provision in the area following the previous inspection, which issued a ‘requires improvement’ rating.

Tutors and learners were praised for their efforts by the inspectors.

Supportive and inclusive atmospheres in sessions were applauded, while learners were found to be making very good progress developing work-related skills and behaviours.

The council has welcomed the outcome of the inspection saying the decision to merge the adult education service with economic development’s employment and skills team has been instrumental to the improvement.

Not only does the new service cover all aspects of employment and further education – including training and apprenticeships – it also provides courses for families, leisure pursuits and adult learning.
