Market and high street projects in East Yorkshire have won over £54,000 in grants from the latest round of special local authority funding.

Eight schemes are the latest beneficiaries of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s High Street Fund.

This pours fresh investment into activities aimed at stimulating market places and high streets in the district.

Among the successful applicants is not-for-profit Beverley FM community radio. The Ofcom-licensed station’s round-the-clock transmissions give local groups, businesses and communities the chance to get their messages across the airwaves.

The council’s grants panel said it was “very impressed” with the applicants’ quality and quantity of ideas concerning local markets and high streets.

Submitted thoughts on how to spend the cash have comprised markets, festivals, events, heritage trails, shop front upgrades as well as fresh methods of promoting and advertising.

This is the second round of funding following on from the first three awards being given out last October.
