East Yorkshire is bracing itself for severe winds that are predicted to hit over the weekend.

The region has already been battered by gusts of up to 40mph on Thursday night and the early hours of Friday morning and forecasters expect the winds to get stronger.

Vehicles crossing the motorway bridge that goes over the River Ouse are being restricted to speeds of no more than 40mph, while access to the Humber Bridge has been denied to high-sided vehicles.

Severe south-westerly winds are predicted for Friday evening, with speeds expected to climb to up to 50 or 60mph, and continue through to Saturday and Sunday.

Cloud is expected to build on Friday culminating in outbreaks of rain while temperatures are expected to stay mild and remain in double figures during the day and into the evening and overnight. But a steep fall to 3C on Saturday is forecast.
