Up to 131 affordable homes could be provided in areas of need across East Yorkshire thanks to a local council plan beginning in 2015.

The plans are being put forward as part of the council’s commitment to meeting the need for affordable housing in the county.

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for housing, environment and planning with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, believes that, as well as providing affordable housing, the new project will boost the East Riding economy by providing job and training opportunities in the area.

The homes being proposed will include 75 existing properties to be purchased and repaired, 46 new-builds, which are still subject to planning approval, and 10 homes which have been empty for a long time.

The empty properties will be refurbished and brought back into use along with the 75 other existing properties.

The project will be funded in part by the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), with the remainder of the expense being covered by the council.
