Green Port Hull is encouraging more businesses to take on qualified staff to tackle long-term unemployment in East Yorkshire.

Businesses are being encouraged to offer job placements to fully-trained candidates, to tackle the rise of long-term unemployed people.

Ian Archibald, on behalf of Green Port Hull, said: “The aim of the project is to get long-term unemployed, which is 26 weeks or more, back into employment.

“The pathways programme is a 10-week programme which provides them with retraining, up-skilling and employability training for five weeks as well as a five-week work placement with a view to be taken on at the end of it.”

Mr Archibald says businesses that have offered more job placements are already reaping the benefits.

He added: “We’ve got companies already interested in taking on another three or four because they’ve already taken three on. They see the benefit of it, it helps with their recruitment process.

“We’re getting really motivated work-ready individuals that really want to work.”
