One NHS worker in East Yorkshire was overpaid by more than £122,000 in the past year, while another is returning £27,000 in overpayments.

The cases were highlighted as it emerged that dozens of hospital staff at Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust were overpaid by a total of more than £240,000 in the 12-month period.

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request uncovered the figures, which include a specialist registrar being paid £122,150 too much before it was returned by bank transfer.

A consultant has pledged to return £27,360 received in overpayments. Errors made when entering payroll details were said to be behind both mistakes.

One former employee of the trust is having to return £8,213.50 which was paid to them after they had left their job.

The FOI request also found that doctors, hospital secretaries, nurses and support staff workers were among those affected by salary errors.
